At Baby Jewels, we've come to realise, from interactions with customers, that some children have a skin sensitivity, even to sterling silver and gold. Some research told us that surgical steel is a hypoallergenic metal which is now being used for children's jewellery. We also read that titanium (which is also used in medical body implants) is also hypoallergenic. We began a search world wide to find children's jewellery in these metals. We now have a wide range of children's earrings, as in studs, huggies and hoops, plus necklaces, bracelets, bangles and even anklets.
Now, children with sensitive skin need no longer miss out on beautiful jewellery.
Some of our surgical steel jewellery is gold IP plated. An explanation from a manufacturer, follows:
"Ion plating makes the gold plating more durable, more wear resistant, and also has a higher brightness. Ion plating involves adding of a titanium nitride layer, which has a high chemical stability, to the component to be plated. To this is added a gold coating, normally not exceeding 0.3 urn in thickness."

In fact, it has been said that IP plating, unlike regular gold plating is so durable as to be considered permanent."
More research shows that for jewellery, "permanent gold plating" means 3 years of continuous wear.
For this reason, we've also added some IP gold, surgical steel jewellery (yellow gold and rose gold) to our line, for children who can wear gold.
